Map to Mariasburg Train Station Print
BOARDING at the MARAISBURG TRAIN STATION :                                             Go to Trips and Events Page >>>

Here, at the bottom of this web page, is the road map to the Maraisburg East Train Station from where we start many of our steam train journeys.  The instructions for downloading the map are shown just above the map's graphic.  To board our steam train, you need to drive around to the back of the Train Station, to 6th Street, as shown on the map below.  The nearest highway exit is Maraisburg Road (R24) off the N1 Western Bypass.    .

As of end 2008, Reefsteamers will be using this station as a terminal point for day-trip trains to Magaliesburg instead of the original terminal point of Boksburg East.
We now use the Maraisburg Train Station, an operating commuter station west of Johannesburg, for such departures.  We will still use the Boksburg East station as a departure point for longer trips and tours, and for future trips run on the East Rand – click here to see a road map to the Boksburg East Station.

PARKING at the STATION :                                                                                         Go to Trips and Events Page >>>

Please park facing the palisade fencing alongside the station but keep your car clear of pedestrian access.  Try to park closely as tom conserve space and allow parking for other people. Your cars will be watched through the day by pad security staff.  As Maraisburg is an active commuter station, there are always people around.

PLATFORM ACCESS :                                                                                                  Go to Trips and Events Page >>>

As you walk in through the station gates you will see a subway and a Ticket office right next to a platform.  The nearest platform to the car park is Platform ONE and is for Eastbound trains only.  The Magaliesburg Train is westbound on the outbound journey.  You need to cross the line and go over to the double platform TWO and THREE.  Access to these platforms is via the underground walkway that passes under the tracks and up through the opposite platforms.  Please adhere to railway regulations and do not attempt to cross the railway line on foot.  The Reefsteamers Steam Train will usually stop on the far side, at Platform THREE, but depending on the positioning of the other trains on the line, this may not always be the case.

When the Reefsteamers Train stops at Maraisburg on the way home., you will climb off at Platform ONE, go down the subway and turn left to come up again amongst the parked cars.

TICKETS REQUIRED :                                                                                                  Go to Trips and Events Page >>>

On Reefsteamers operated trains, our Bookings Clerk (will confirm your booking and assign you the ticket to board the train.  Please do not board the train without a ticket or confirming payment.  Reefsteamers coaches are 'Right of Admission Reserved', thus we reserve the right to ask you to disembark should you have not paid for the trip.  In an emergency, we can accept cash payment, if you weren't able to do a cash transfer.  However, we do dislike this method as it means there is cash on board the train, which is a security risk

Third Party Trip Organizers, such as Angel Tours or SANRASM (Steam Museum) will look after their own booking and ticketing requirements.  On such third party organized trains, Reefsteamers merely functions as the rail carrier and all enquiries must be addressed to the parties concerned.  Reefsteamers staff CANNOT and WILL NOT help you with bookings, especially of private compartments – as we do not have the individual passenger lists.

RESERVED ROWS :                                                                                                      Go to Trips and Events Page >>>

If the coaches are reserved for the particular trip, the Ticket Officer will direct you one of the friendly Reefsteamers staff that you will see on the platform, and they will direct you to your coach.  The Reefsteamers crew and staff will be instantly recognizable from amongst the passengers, as we all wear orange or yellow high visibility vests.

If the coaches are not reserved - you can board any sleeper or day-sitter coach and sit where you like.  (The coach types are clearly labeled on their sides.)  Please note that for security reasons, the doors on the bar car, the lounge car and the catering car are locked and bolted closed.  These are (usually) the three coaches right in the middle of the train.

DOWNLOADING THE MAP :                                                                                         Go to Trips and Events Page >>>

Scroll down this page to view the map.  You should be able to print this map directly from the website, if you are using a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and higher.  Alternatively, you can download the map to your computer by right clicking on the map graphic, waiting for the context menu to appear and then click 'Save Picture As'.  Type in or browse to a directory to save the map to your computer's hard drive.

If you save the picture in the original *.Gif format, the map will only be about 250kB in size.

If you still have problems with downloading or printing the map, call our Bookings Manager,
Les Smith, who has his own version of the map that he can email directly to you.
